Ingredients4 tablespoons sugar 1/2 cup vegetable shortening 2 eggs 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup milk 2 cups flour 2 cups whole wheat flour 1/2 cup seeded raisins 1/2 teaspoon salt 11/2 cups molasses 1/2 cup chopped nut meats 1 teaspoon powdered ginger 1/2 teaspoon powdered mace 1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon 3 tablespoons chopped candied lemon peel Procedure
- Mix flours. Add peel, raisins, nuts, spices, and salt.
- Melt vegetable shortening, molasses, and sugar.
- Cool and add well-beaten eggs.
- Mix soda with milk and add to molasses mixture.
- Mix well and pour into greased and floured cake tin.
- Bake at 350 degrees for one hour.
- Sufficient for one large cake of gingerbread.
