Cornmeal Rolls Recipe

Ingredients

1¼ cups flour
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1 egg
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup cornmeal
4 teaspoons baking powder

Procedure

  1. Sift together flour, cornmeal, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
  2. Rub in vegetable shortening with finger tips. Add one well-beaten egg and milk.
  3. Roll out, cut into rounds with a large cutter, and brush over with melted vegetable shortening.
  4. Brush tops with beaten egg or milk and bake at 450 degrees for ten minutes.
  5. Sufficient for fifteen rolls.
